He was shipped to St. Thomas in 2017 from the U.S. mainland where he already had raced 17 times, but after Hurricane Maria destroyed the racetrack, racing on the island never resumed. Papi remained in St. Thomas at a local rescue where, due to changes in administration, he unfortunately experienced periods of neglect, including starvation and injury. In 2023, Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare partnered with a new group to bring Papi and his close companion, What’s Poppin, to Puerto Rico—giving them the second chance they deserved. Temperament & RideabilityUnder saddle, Papi is incredibly kind and forgiving. He is docile, steady, and well-suited for trail riding and low-level equitation. He has proven to be especially good with kids under saddle, making him a wonderful confidence-builder in the right setting. On the ground, Papi has made significant progress since arriving at CTA. He can still become impatient during grooming or bathing and does best with a calm, experienced handler who can provide consistency and clear boundaries. A Bond Worth KeepingPapi shares a strong bond with his companion, What’s Poppin, and we would love to see them placed together if possible. He is happiest when he has that sense of security and companionship. The Details✔️ Up to date on vaccinations, deworming, and farrier care✔️ Great under saddle – suitable for beginners with supervision✔️ Best with experienced handling on the ground Papi is a special horse who has overcome a difficult past and is ready for a home where he can feel safe, valued, and understood. His past doesn’t define him—his heart does. Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare Inc. is a rescue; this horse is for adoption, not for sale.
