About this item

Breed: Thoroughbred Gender: Gelding Age: 10 Height: 16.1hh Color: Bay Disciplines: Driving, Western Pleasure, Trail Riding, Endurance, Companion, Dressage, English Pleasure, Prospect for Any Discipline Adoption fee: $2,000 Location: After the Races — Elkton, MD Hey Congrats is a lovely, 9 year old, 16.1 hand, bay gelding that came to us in partnership with Aftercare Charles Town. He is a warhorse in our books, having retired after 48 races last year with a soft tissue injury that has now had plenty of time to heal. This Kentucky-bred gelding is by Congrats and out of a Chelsey Cat mare. Hey Congrats came to us in good condition and having been well handled after spending much of the last year with inmates at the James River Horse Foundation in Virginia. After getting rehabilitated from a high, hind suspensory injury, he received plenty of hands-on attention and time to be a horse, and came to us at ATR ready to start being ridden and find a new home. He had a great evaluation with our vet who found him adorable in addition to sound and she thinks he would do well through at least low level eventing (2'9"ish) or similar competition levels in other disciplines. He definitely has the temperament to be an all-around pleasure horse for an active rider and has movement that we think will appeal to hunters and pleasure riders alike! We have had several rides on him now and he has been fantastic! He happily goes around walk, trot, and canter. He is very quiet and willing, but still green enough that an adopter should enjoy helping him work on straightness and bending and learning his aids to go off your leg. He's done ground poles and has been ridden now by at least 4 different riders here without any issues. Definitely one to consider if you don't have high-level jumper goals! After the Races is a rescue; this horse is for adoption, not for sale. Message After the Races here on tacktack to ask about Hey Congrats and the adoption process.
