Follow her progress at #hopteamsela From the trainer 7/6/26 Sela's Second Required Post! Sela is a 4yo QH/TWH standing approx 15.1hh I've been taking it slow a steady with Sela, and yet time is flying by! Sela a a very sweet girl who loves to meet you at the gate and gets along well with other horses. She is very smart and very sensitive. Last weekend I took her camping with a group and although I didn't ride her at camp, I really feel like it helped us turn a corner and build our mutual trust. It is believed Sela may be gaited but only time will tell. She has a really nice moving out walk though that keeps up with the gaited horses pretty well! This video is a compilation of our journey since the first required post Sela's skills so far: - stands tied for grooming and saddling -accepts bit/bridle -picks up feet for cleaning and farrier -good for vet -loads in trailer and backs out nicely -camps on highline -walks over obstacles -walks through water -accepts fly spray and fly gear (mask, sheet and boots) -stands for mounting What we will be working on: +More desensitization with flappy scary things +softening to the bit +fine tuning movement both in hand and in the saddle +walk, trot, canter +getting out on trail +lateral movement and flexion Sela is a very sweet and social mare that gets along well with humans and other horses. She is naturally curious and outgoing. Where Sela has trouble is trust. She and I really needed to work hard and figure each other out. Knowing that she had been worked with other trainers in the past and that she's even been ridden caused me to rush some things in the beginning, which was a mistake on my part. She struggles with self-regulation. When something startles her (which is a lot), her reactions are very dramatic and explosive. This put a little fear in me to be honest, so we both had to slow down and work on building a relationship where I let her be more expressive and to take my time. This week I feel like we've turned a corner. Instead of dreading my sessions with her, I am now hopeful for the remainder of this challenge. Sela can lead, load/unload in a trailer, stand for farrier and vet, stand tied, stand for fly spray, lead over and around obstacles. Horses typically adopted UTD on vaccines, dental floats, farrier care and all vet needs. We are looking to adopt to safe homes. A history of good horsemanship, the ability to provide sufficient care with good vet, farrier and peer references are important. If you are a first time horse owner, we will require you to board at a facility for the first year while you learn more about care. We encourage everyone to take advantage of riding lessons. Foal adoptions require previous, established experience with youngsters. Our adoption process makes sure you get the right horse for you – it is a no fail process for finding the right match.
