Breed: Pony Gender: Gelding Age: 2 Height: 13.3hh Color: Black Disciplines: Other, Companion, Trail Riding Adoption fee: $1,800 Location: Heart of Phoenix β€” Shoals, WV PLEASE NOTE: THE INQUIRY FORM ON THIS PAGE IS NOT THE HEART OF PHOENIX ADOPTION APPLICATION Name Yukon Foal Date: 2024 Breed: QH X Color: Black Gender: gelding Height: 13.2 HH Est in Training for the ATFO Whippersnapper division with Jen Bradley. Follow along #hopteamyukon https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61587325402307 FEE: $1800 From Trainer 7/6/26 2 year old, Quarter Pony x Mustang Anyone that adopts this baby will fall in LOVE hard and fast! He is a favorite among my riding school families as he is usually tied to the horse trailer during riding lessons to be trained in between and for exposure with new people. They gush over him and he is generally open to the attention! He will bond strongly with HIS person though when he is adopted and from there he will try his hardest for that person. He also loves to work/train and is very happy learning new skills. Yukon does NOT have a mean bone in his body and loves to be loved on . He tries very hard when learning and NEVER needs too much firmness but rather patience and praise for the correct behavior. He gets REALLY excited to come into the barn, running so fast up the hill from the pasture and he knows his stall. During turn out he is super playful with his herd mates. It is just so cute to watch! Strengths: easy to love stands tied to anything or nothing (ground tying) loads and unloads easily in trailers great for farrier will think before reacting great stalled great turned out with mixed herd will lead respectfully at walk and trot stands quiet for grooming, fly spray, bathing, etc. WTC beautifully on lunge line with body and verbal commands can be led by children positive first show Showmanship/halter class judge mentioned that we lost some points due to baby things like wanting to look at judge and not as snappy with our back up compared to the veteran halter horses In-hand trail class was successful with the only exception being the bridge — no big deal we didn’t work on it and will be working on it when we trailer up to SKM Equine to use their bridge and cowboy curtain. Working On: easily comes into the barn and haltering in the stall but still difficult to catch in the field becoming less suspicious of new people — may always be a work in progress but he has become more trusting of new people over time with more and more positive interactions with strangers still working on refining our side passing and tricks Please consider adopting, spreading our story on social media or sponsoring Yukon! Young horses in the Whippersnapper Division can be pre adopted before our ATFO event Just make sure you apply through the Heart of Phoenix Equine Rescue, INC Yukon has made some amazing progress since February. When I picked him up in Kentucky, he was completely feral! I mean, so feral, that if you looked at him he would jump right out of his skin! He was also very underweight and his coat was patchy and dull. In order to load him onto my trailer, he had to be pushed through a chute system of corrals! Today, he is already a different horse. He is more trusting and willing (not ) but we continue to build his confidence with humans. He can be easily suspicious of new people and new objects but with the correct guidance from a handler he is easy to work with and will become less reactive and more curious. He is very trusting of me as his trainer which leads me to believe that he will become very trusting of his potential adoptive family once he can settle, learn routine, and get to know another person with consistency. Routine is so helpful with him! I would encourage it as a tool to establish trust! So that was the negative, literally that was it! There are so many more positives! Yukon is the smartest . He is a quick learner and very WILLING to learn and please! Yukon is so easy to lead with softness. He is so sweet and really a gentle soul! He is desensitized to everyday barn tasks. Movement, mucking out stalls while he is in the stall, motorized vehicles, dogs, poultry, pigs, tractors, etc. Yukon can lunge with simple queues walk, trot, canter. He will always give two eyes during training sessions where he will square up facing handler out of respect and safety. He is desensitized to all training aides. Yukon can respond to pressure easily and move all parts of his body appropriately to yield front or hind, back up, or to send through. Yukon will load and unload on a trailer. He stands physically tied to the barn or trailer. We are working on ground tying. Yukon is comfortable with the hose and bathing. He will stand for farrier, vet, and I can easily give him shots and dewormer. Yukon is easy to halter and will laterally flex. He is also very willing to walk on trails and cross over any obstacle! We will continue to work on building his confidence in different people as well as expose him to horse shows. My goal will be to try some in hand classes and work on obstacles and tricks Adoption fees may be outdated, as a horse may have moved into training, so check us on most current fee. Horses typically adopted UTD on vaccines, dental floats, farrier care and all vet needs. We are looking to adopt to safe homes. A history of good horsemanship, the ability to provide sufficient care with good vet, farrier and peer references are important. If you are a first time horse owner, we will require you to board at a facility for the first year while you learn more about care. We encourage everyone to take advantage of riding lessons. Foal adoptions require previous, established experience with youngsters. Our adoption process makes sure you get the right horse for you – it is a no fail process for finding the right match.
