Follow his progress at #hopteamwrigley. Second required post- There hasn't been many Wrigley updates but trust all the "boring" slow day to day repetition is happening in the background. Wrigley finds comfort in what he knows and responds best to a slow gentle approach. He still needs the comfort of the whip being the first intial contact with him. We are working towards him relaxing and not being so reactive to a more direct approach. The slow repetitive sessions is whats building his confidence and trust in humans that will lead to the leaps and bounds as he progresses. We are just over 30 days past gelding and finally seeing a noticeable difference. As with most aged stallions it takes how ever much time it takes for behaviors to change and hormones to fade. Wrigley is progressing slowly but surley! The most important step made for him this far and potentially for the first time in his life he is able to relax in the presence of a human. Although leary and unsure of new faces he is finding comfort in my presence. Originally all interactions had to be forced while he learned to stand verse fleeing while being approached, to be haltered, desintized to the whip, lead rope, etc. He has learned to do this well not only for myself but others. Wrigley is now willingly meeting me at the gate for occasional treats, head rubs and neck scratches. He is able to relax with a lowered head, close his eyes and find comfort in the attention received. He has quickly learned the right response means rest and the wrong means work. Getting better one day at a time! riggly is believed to be an Arabian cross and is estimated to be around seven years old. As his training progresses and I am able to safely obtain a hair follicle sample, I plan to submit a DNA test for confirmation. Wriggly has had approximately a week and a half of training so far. Our first few days focused on helping him accept the halter so he could be gelded. Training was then paused until after the procedure. We have recently resumed groundwork, and he continues to impress! Wriggly is an incredibly smart boy who quickly picks up on his handler’s body language and aims to please. With clear, precise direction, he responds well to pressure and is willing to do what is asked of him. He is still wary of people and their presence, but as his stallion days fade behind him, he is settling more comfortably into life as a gelding. He is currently lunging confidently in both directions with smooth transitions and is learning to yield both his hindquarters and forequarters. Most importantly, Wriggly is learning that his humans are here for him, not to fear but to be the leader he needs us to be. Were not in a hurry; instead, we are busy building confidence and laying a solid foundation Adoption fees may be outdated, as a horse may have moved into training, so check us on most current fee. Horses typically adopted UTD on vaccines, dental floats, farrier care and all vet needs. We are looking to adopt to safe homes. A history of good horsemanship, the ability to provide sufficient care with good vet, farrier and peer references are important. If you are a first time horse owner, we will require you to board at a facility for the first year while you learn more about care. We encourage everyone to take advantage of riding lessons. Foal adoptions require previous, established experience with youngsters. Our adoption process makes sure you get the right horse for you – it is a no fail process for finding the right match.
