About this item

Breed: Standardbred Gender: Mare Age: 16 Height: 15.1hh Color: Bay Disciplines: Companion, Prospect for Any Discipline Adoption fee: $1,200 Location: Susquehanna SPCA — Cooperstown, NY Meet Sophia! At 16 years young, Sophia is a beautiful registered Standardbred mare with a wealth of life experience behind her and a new chapter ahead! Sophia began her career on the racetrack before spending several years as a broodmare. Now, she's ready to find her forever home where she can enjoy a well-deserved retirement! Thanks to her varied experiences, Sophia is well-rounded and accustomed to many aspects of horse care and handling. She's comfortable being stalled, trailers well, stands tied, enjoys grooming, and is good for the farrier. She has taken the transition into our care in stride, showing herself to be a generally confident and adaptable gal. While Sophia has adjusted well, equine companionship appears to be very important to her! She is most comfortable when other horses are nearby or within sight. We believe she would thrive in a home with other horses. Sophia could make a wonderful companion horse or a rewarding partner for groundwork, in-hand activities, or liberty work. Although she has not yet been started under saddle, we see no reason she couldn't continue her education and potentially transition into a riding partner with appropriate training. Of course, she could also be enjoyed just as she is! Ultimately, Sophia deserves appreciation for the kind mare she is, whether as a cherished companion or a partner in new adventures. Susquehanna SPCA is a rescue; this horse is for adoption, not for sale. Rescue website: http://sqspca.org
