An in-person assessment by DEFHR has not been completed to confirm that all information presented is accurate and true. Tack and supplies may also be available and open for discussion. Red Ginger, nicknamed Cersei, is a 2012, 16.2h registered Thoroughbred mare who came to her current owner at approximately 8–9 years old after being restarted under saddle after a short racing career of 4 starts and just under $500 in career earnings. Her owner spent her first year with her focusing on groundwork and liberty work to overcome some confidence issues, before getting back on her to ride. That time and trust-building have helped her become a willing and versatile riding partner. Cersei has experience with basic dressage, local shows, trail classes, small jumps, and extensive trail riding. She especially enjoys jumping in the arena and has ridden solo on more than 100 acres through woods, fields, streams, and ponds. She has even been ridden bareback in a halter and lead rope. She has had more beginner level riders on her back before and took good care of them. Under saddle, she goes forward readily and comes back easily. She has some basic dressage skills, including leg yields, side passes, and turn on the forehand, and her current owner feels she could potentially enjoy low-level eventing with the right partner. She loads well and is nearly a self-loader. Cersei is a sensitive mare who does best with a confident, thoughtful handler who understands anxious horses and values consistency. When confused or unsure, she may back up rather than move forward. She's also not a fan of leaving her friends, but does much better when in a predictable routine and a person she trusts. Once she considers you her person, she can be remarkably relaxed and affectionate. She loves attention, treats, and being pampered, gives hugs, and will touch her rider's foot to show she is ready to wrap up working. She tries hard to do what is asked of her and genuinely wants to please. She tends to be low in the herd hierarchy and is always looking to make friends. Cersei is sensitive to her saddle fit and will let you know if she's uncomfortable. She may toss her head during saddling, although this has improved significantly. She is currently tolerating her existing saddle, but a properly fitted saddle should be a priority for her new home, and a professional saddle fitting is recommended. Cersei has a history of ulcers, but has responded well to treatment in the past and is being managed well with her current plan, which her owner is happy to share. She will cross-tie, but is sensitive to pressure when tied. So her owner prefers to ground tie, drape her rope over a fence or single tie her instead. Cersei would be happiest with someone who wants to ride and interact with her regularly, ideally at least 2–3 days per week. She would enjoy a simple, consistent job such as dressage, jumping, trail riding, or a combination of activities. She thrives when she knows what to expect and has a person who is willing to continue building her confidence. She has lived comfortably with both mares and geldings, seems to particularly enjoy geldings, and could do well living out 24/7. She has been barefoot since shortly after her current owner acquired her, although shoes may be appropriate depending on future workload and terrain. Cersei is UTD on everything and ready to go! Cersei is a horse with plenty of heart who wants to trust her person, have a job, and be part of a partnership. In the right home, she has a lot to offer. Owner to Owner Program (O2O) is a rescue; this horse is for adoption, not for sale. Message Owner to Owner Program (O2O) here on tacktack to ask about Red Ginger (Cersei) and the adoption process.
