About this item

Breed: Thoroughbred Gender: Mare Age: 20 Height: 16.2hh Color: Dark Bay Disciplines: Companion, English Pleasure, Trail Riding, Other Adoption fee: $1 Location: Owner to Owner Program — Woodbine, MD Belle is one of nine horses currently seeking placement through our program following the tragic passing of one owner, which has left the remaining elderly owner unable to continue their care. She is a registered, tattooed Thoroughbred; however, her tattoo was not legible at the time of assessment. Based on dentition and owner input, we estimate Belle to be in her 20s. She is a notably tall mare, standing approximately 16.2hh. Belle was among the first to greet us in the field and proved easy to catch, quietly allowing herself to be haltered. She stood calmly for evaluation and was cooperative, even allowing a front foot to be picked up amid the activity around her. Throughout our visit, she remained people-oriented and preferred to stay nearby, though she did display some pushiness at times, suggesting she may benefit from a refresher in ground manners. Given her tattoo, Belle has had some level of previous training under saddle, though it may have been many years ago. She should be thoughtfully evaluated to determine what she retains before any riding is considered. Due to her age, she would also be well-suited for a non-riding companion home. Belle maintains her weight well and has wintered successfully, unblanketed, with a simple feeding routine of once-daily grain and free-choice round bale access. At this time, she is not up to date on routine care beyond daily feeding. Her new owner should be prepared to address Coggins, vaccinations, deworming, dental, and farrier needs. She has been turned out successfully with both mares and geldings. This kind mare would thrive in a quiet home where she can enjoy a comfortable retirement with attentive care. If you’re interested in learning more about Belle, we would be happy to speak with you. Owner to Owner Program (O2O) is a rescue; this horse is for adoption, not for sale.
