Breed: Other, Morgan Gender: Mare Age: 8 Height: 14.3hh Color: Bay Disciplines: Companion, Other, Trail Riding, Prospect for Any Discipline Adoption fee: $1,800 Location: Heart of Phoenix — Shoals, WV PLEASE NOTE: THE INQUIRY FORM ON THIS PAGE IS NOT THE HEART OF PHOENIX ADOPTION APPLICATION Name Laurel Foal Date: 2018 Breed: Morgan X KMSH Color: Bay Gender: Mare Height: HH 14.3 HH starting bid for approved adopters: 1800 From the Trainer 7/7/26 The big update is that unfortunately, Enero (in first pic) got a soft tissue injury to his hind fetlock somehow while in turnout, and wont be at the event. This is 100% random and unrelated to his issue last year, which has given me no trouble at all this summer. I know it looks bad for him being out 2-for-2, but it truly is just bad luck and hes expected to be, once again, just fine. Im still hoping he finds his person soon, hes just impossible not to love. Consequently, the other big news is that several days ago, Laurel, an 8yo Rocky x Morgan mare, came to stay with me for the rest of the competition while her original trainer Kaylie Lynn Eaves recovers from an injury. I dont know her very well yet and have yet to get good video, but Id encourage anyone interested to check out some of the great content about her on Kaylies page Kaylie Eaves Horsemanship LLC. SOME OF THE FIRST THINGS IVE NOTICED ABOUT LAUREL She is SO sweet and just wants to please She is very curious and quite brave when it comes to new and novel objects and obstacles Good for grooming, picking feet, hosing off, saddling, takes the bit easily I definitely think shes going to gait She lifts her lip up a lot? Shes a worried little girl. She does everything you ask, but shes concerned about it Shes guardy about her hips/pretty insecure when she has to engage them I would also like to add that shes 14.3, small, but not as small as she looks when Im on her—Im 511 OUR GOALS FOR THE NEXT FEW WEEKS Help Laurel feel more calm and confident in her body! Were currently doing in-hand work to help her engage and step under herself in the correct balance, as well as using the bit as a tool to help her find some good jaw releases. Soon, well take this stuff and translate it to under saddle work. Laurel has come a long way since I picked her up from the Heart of Phoenix! This 8-year-old Morgan/Mountain Pleasure Horse cross mare has been a joy to work with. When she first arrived, she was wary of being haltered, didn't know how to stand tied, and was fearful of baths and fly spray. She also had no previous experience under saddle. Today, Laurel is a different horse. She meets me at the gate to be haltered, stands tied patiently, and is gaining confidence every day—even if she’s still deciding that fly spray and baths aren't out to get her! We’ve built a strong foundation through: •Trailer loading & mounting block manners •Long-lining & body stretches •In-hand work & free lunging •Free jumping (she has really taken to this!) She has been ridden three times now, and we are moving right along smoothly! Laurel is still learning the ropes of herd dynamics. She’s made some great mare buddies, though she and my older mare still trade the occasional "look." She definitely has her preferences! She has a massive personality—especially when she’s curious or waiting for a treat, which almost always triggers her hilarious Flehmen response. She has no stall vices and is ready for the next chapter. Up next: introducing new obstacles, consistent W/T/C work under saddle, hitting the trails, and eventually getting her out to shows. It’s been so exciting to see how much interest there is in her already—I’m looking forward to watching her find the perfect match! She’s a special mare! Horses are typically located in the Appalachian area, but please inquire about a horse's specific location when you apply! We are looking to adopt to safe homes. A history of good horsemanship, the ability to provide sufficient care with good vet, farrier and peer references are important. If you are a first-time horse owner, we will require you to board at a facility for the first year while you learn more about care. We encourage everyone to take advantage of riding lessons. Foal adoptions require previous, established experience with youngsters. Our adoption process makes sure you get the right horse for you – it is a no-fail process for finding the right match.
