Breed: Grade Gender: Gelding Age: 2 Height: 14.2hh Color: Chestnut Disciplines: Prospect for Any Discipline, Gaited Adoption fee: $1,000 Location: ASPCA Equine Transition and Adoption Center at Nexus Equine β El Reno, OK Meet Joey! If you’re looking for a new best friend to learn and grow with, Joey might be your guy. Joey is a charming and charismatic 1.5 year old Kentucky Mountain Horse gelding who was collected from Eastern Kentucky last year. He is still learning to trust that humans are his friends, but he is curious, inquisitive, and certainly open to the idea that people can be pretty fun. Joey does very well in a herd and seems to learn quickly from the horses around him. While he is still getting comfortable with basic skills like being caught in the pasture, he will happily follow the lead of his more confident friends- especially when there are treats involved! Joey currently stands around 14.2 hh and, at only 1.5 years old, he still has quite a bit of growing to do. Due to his young age he has not been started or assessed under saddle, but we expect him to have great potential as a riding horse in a variety of disciplines. He is gaited, and will do best with an adopter who has experience with or interest in gaited horses. Joey’s perfect adopter is someone who is comfortable working with young horses and has experience or support with starting a horse under saddle. Joey is a very kind little man, but he will need a confident handler to help him grow in the areas where he isn’t yet confident in himself. We have been absolutely delighted by this boy, and he has the looks to match his adorable personality. Whether you’re looking for a fun project, or a best friend for life, reach out to us if you think Joey might be the one! ASPCA is a rescue; this horse is for adoption, not for sale.
