About this item

Breed: Thoroughbred Gender: Mare Age: 14 Height: 16.3hh Color: Gray Disciplines: Companion Adoption fee: $1 Location: Owner to Owner Program — Woodbine, MD Meet Free for the Ride (aka "Fiona"), a beautiful 2012, 16.3h registered Thoroughbred mare. Due to unforeseen medical issues, Fiona's owner is hoping to find a home where she can be loved and cared for. Fiona is unraced and her owner was told that she was used for foxhunting prior to purchasing her in 2022. It was discovered that Fiona does have Kissing Spine and Pedal Osteitis, so Fiona would be best suited as a non-riding companion horse for an intermediate or above handler. Fiona is overall good to work around on the ground, but would benefit from someone with a little more experience and confidence. In typical mare fashion, she likes to test new handlers to see what she can get away with. So someone who can enforce firm but fair reinforcement of her manners would be best. She is good for the vet and farrier, needles and oral meds. She will stand to be bathed, spray, pick up all four hooves, she cross-ties, and loads. This girl is also a smart cookie! She free lunges and responds to vocal cues/commands. Her owner feels she could be a great horse for someone wanting to do trick or liberty training. Fiona is UTD on her shots, deworming and farrier. She recently had her shoes pulled and has been doing well while she adjusts to being barefoot. She may be able to remain barefoot if on moderate terrain without lots of rock. Fiona's teeth were last floated in 2023 and she currently has no dental issues or concerns. She lives out 24/7 in a mixed herd and typically falls on the dominant end of the herd dynamics. If you're looking for a mare who likes to work and keep her brain busy, Fiona could be the one for you! Inquire about her today and let's chat!
