About this item

Breed: American Quarter Horse Gender: Gelding Age: 25 Height: 14.2hh Color: Bay Disciplines: Western Pleasure, English Pleasure, Trail Riding, Companion Adoption fee: $600 Location: Longmeadow Rescue Ranch — Union, MO Avaric came to Longmeadow in 2024. With the help of HSMO’s Animal Cruelty Task Force, we were able to rescue Avaric and other horses from a place of neglect. After we received legal custody of the group, and after some much-needed vet and farrier care, we were finally able to evaluate this handsome man to find out what he knew! Avaric won us over immediately with his sweet personality. He did not mind the attention he received from staff and volunteers and was easy to handle on the ground. Avaric enjoyed the company of his equine buddies but did not mind leaving the group when he would be led outside or away from the herd. He enjoyed being groomed and doted upon by his handlers. Upon evaluation, our trainers found Avaric to be a gentleman on the ground. While he did need the occasional reminder about having good manners, he was generally well-behaved and enjoyed his time with people. When he was evaluated under saddle, Avaric showed some anxiety during the mounting process, displaying wide eyes and a swishy tail at first. However, once settled and doing his job, he proved to be well-trained. He responded well to neck reining and leg pressure. With an intermediate rider and a little patience, we believe this gelding would make a wonderful addition to any herd! Maximum Carrying Weight (includest tack and rider): 200lbs Longmeadow Rescue Ranch is a rescue; this horse is for adoption, not for sale.
