Have you dreamed about racing stout little ponies in Mongolia? Do you love riding a flashy horse, but hate climbing a ladder to get on them? Then Skater Boy may be the short king you need in your life! Skater is a Mustang gelding from the White Mountain HMA in Wyoming. This butterball is about 13.2 hands of punk and sass. Thick in all the right places, and as sure-footed as a mule. He's a gorgeous palomino roan with long, thick hair. He is about 3 years old, and ready to develop with his person into a handy little horse. (For scale: Photos show a rider/handler that is 5'10) Skater is... an odd little dude. He will try chewing on everything you own, at least once. He will pull the hose out of the tank you're filling (and spray your other horses for fun). The dude loves chewing on icicles. He sometimes unlatches his gate to get to more hay. And, pinky swear, this horse picked up a stick and poked it into his buddy's side to make him move. He is a weirdo, but in a good way. He is a resident menace, but dearly loved. He was slow to come around, but has grown a lot in his domestic life. Skater will halter, lead, lunge, load, tie, saddle, stand for vet, farrier, spray bottles, blanketing, and clipping, and has done obstacle work. He will also pony, but only if he is friends with your pony horse (otherwise he insists on lagging 10ft behind). Skater is under saddle, but still very green, and will continue training until adopted. Skater will shuffle around just enough to be out of reach when you go to catch him. He often seems to treat it like a fun game. He has a bit of stranger danger and spookiness, and still needs more confidence in himself, but he learns quickly. He stays fat on air, but his gut is sensitive to alfalfa. While he can get a bit mouthy with food around, Skater has never threatened to bite, kick, or buck with a rider/handler. Skater would do best with an intermediate or advanced rider, ideally someone who will work with a trainer to continue his adult education, and being worked consistently. We think that once he finds his partner-in-crime, he has potential to be the cutest trail mount, a feisty cowhorse, or even explore a career over fences. He loves learning alongside more confident horses, but can be picky about who he befriends. His favorite living setup is a paddock with a buddy or two (prefers geldings), but he also does well in an individual run. He can be caught in a large paddock/pasture with a bit a food bribery. You will never be bored of this horse, and he will keep you young with laughter (but will turn your hair gray when he decides he needs to disassemble the auto waterer on Sunday morning). He truly is a unique and hilarious little dude, he's just waiting for his perfect partner to come along! Skater is available for adoption through Wild Rose Mustang Advocacy Group Incorporated, and is currently located in Laramie, Wyoming.
