About this item

Breed: American Saddlebred Gender: Mare Age: 7 Height: 15.0hh Color: Bay Disciplines: Prospect for Any Discipline, Dressage, Trail Riding Adoption fee: $1,500 Location: Horses' Haven — Howell, MI Update as of 10/1/26 Sicily has still been progressing very well in her training, she is learning to maintain a trot under saddle and has been started over crossrails and shows excellent jumping form. She is still green and potentially reactive so still requires an experienced training to continue her training! Update as of 8/27/26 Sicily has made so much incredible progress in her training that we felt an update was in order! Sicily she has been recently started under saddle and is making good progress. She stands well at the mounting block, and is learning the basics of steering, moving off of leg, and giving to contact at the walk and trot. Sicily is still very green and sensitive with the potential to be reactive. Sicily has come out of her shell and is turning into a lovely, kind horse when she has a bond with her person. She is willing to learn and work with her rider when you allow her time to be curious and work through things. Her areas of improvement are injections, oral medications, standing for the vet and farrier, stalling, and standing tied. Sicily is a very sensitive and reactive horse who is still learning how to be a calm, consistent equine citizen. She is bad for injections and is learning to stand for the farrier without sedation. She can also be difficult to catch. She is willing and tries hard, but she needs clear, patient handling as she continues to build trust. Because of her sensitivity, Sicily will require an experienced trainer who is comfortable working with nervous or flighty horses and can continue her training safely and consistently. Overall, Sicily is an incredibly sweet mare with a lot of potential. With the right person who understands her needs and is willing to put in the work, she could become a very rewarding partner.
