About this item

Breed: Canadian Horse Gender: Mare Age: 20 Height: 15.0hh Color: Dark Bay Disciplines: Driving, Companion Adoption fee: $400 Location: NHSPCA — Stratham, NH Panache is a beautiful, experienced Canadian Horse mare with an impressive background as a competitive driving horse. Our veterinarian believes she is fit to return to driving, making her an exciting opportunity for someone looking for a seasoned driving partner. Panache's previous owner indicated that she drives both single and double and has experience with carriages, sleighs, farm work, and the show ring. She is said to be confident in traffic and enjoys having a job. She is an energetic, expressive horse and is best suited for an experienced driver with soft, steady hands and a good understanding of voice commands. With consistent work and guidance from a knowledgeable trainer, she is a dependable and responsive driving horse. Panache is affectionate, intelligent, and thrives on forming a close bond with her person. She loves grooming, has excellent ground manners, stands well for the farrier, and is comfortable with routine handling. She is highly trainable and enjoys working with people who are calm, patient, and respectful. She flourishes with kind, consistent training. As is typical of many confident mares, Panache is dominant in a herd setting. She does best with careful turnout management, as she can be bossy with other mares, particularly around food or horses she has bonded with. She may be happiest living with compatible geldings or in a turnout situation that accommodates her social preferences. Panache is an easy keeper with no special dietary requirements, though her grazing and weight should be monitored carefully. She has strong, healthy barefoot feet and stands well for routine hoof care. She was successfully treated for Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM) several years ago and has made a good recovery. Panache is looking for an experienced home where her intelligence, athleticism, and love of partnership can shine. For the right adopter, she offers the opportunity to build a rewarding relationship with a talented mare who enjoys working and connecting with her person.
