About this item

Breed: American Quarter Horse Gender: Gelding Age: 17 Height: 15.3hh Color: Bay Disciplines: Trail Riding, Western Pleasure, English Pleasure Adoption fee: $700 Location: Longmeadow Rescue Ranch — Union, MO Murphy came to Longmeadow in Spring of 2025 and is finally ready to find his forever home! We don’t believe this handsome gelding had much training before arriving at Longmeadow. When Murphy began his training evaluation, it quickly became clear that he was uncomfortable with basic handling, especially with the farrier. It took some work to help him tolerate having his feet trimmed safely. He also needed practice accepting oral dewormer and learning to stand calmly for veterinary care. Despite these early challenges, Murphy has made great strides through consistent groundwork and daily handling, and his ground manners have greatly improved. He walks politely alongside his handler and stays relaxed even when separated from his herd. With a willing attitude and growing confidence, Murphy is proving that with patience and the right guidance, he has the potential to become a truly reliable partner! Our trainers believe Murphy has had very little exposure to being ridden and even tack in general. The feeling of a girth and saddle made him nervous and reactive, leading our trainers to believe that he was unfamiliar with both. After a few months of training, Murphy can now comfortably wear a saddle and is learning to ground drive! Murphy will need a confident, advanced rider who can continue to help him gain confidence under saddle with the help of a professional trainer. Maximum Carrying Weight (includes tack and rider): 250lbs Longmeadow Rescue Ranch is a rescue; this horse is for adoption, not for sale.
